While traveling in India, I was approached by kids on the street asking for pens and pencils. Since then, I carry pencils while I travel to give away or leave behind. The phrase "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis" is Latin for "Life is Short, the Art Long". As the pencils are used and sharpened, the opportunity to create decreases. To date, I've left pencils in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Singapore, (South) Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.
